Kitchen Sideboard
A kitchen sideboard is traditionally used in the dining or eating area of a kitchen to serve food or for display. It can also be used as a place to store and display fine china and silverware. It may contain a combination of shelves, drawers and cabinets with a flat surface on the top typically used for holding food that is to be served or for arranging dishes or simply for keeping light fixtures.
Kitchen sideboards can be found in a variety of styles, right from traditional to the more contemporary designs. They are different in size and color and can be customized to suit any particular kitchen or dining room design. Although sideboards are also used in living areas to display household items, its use in the kitchen is more or less limited to serving food.
The following materials are used for making kitchen sideboards:
- Mahogany
- Pine
- Walnut
- Oak
Although kitchen sideboards, as mentioned above have had only one main use, with larger spaces now being available for kitchens and the kitchen area becoming the central location of the house, sideboards in the modern kitchen have many more uses:
- Achieve a cleaner cooking space – You can use the sideboard to stack up your belongings in an organized manner so that your actual work station looks cleaner and more inviting for cooking.
- Store toys and other kid stuff – Nowadays even kids spend most of their time in the kitchen doing homework or playing while the mother cooks away. Wouldn’t it be great to keep some of the kids supplies like toys and drawing materials like paper and crayons in the sideboard so that they don’t have to run back and forth to their room each time they want something?
- Simply for display – You got that beautiful dinner set for your wedding and another one for your house warming party but you have kept it locked inside, never to be shown to anyone. Why not use the sideboard to display that amazing collection of yours and make your friends turn green with envy.
- Add a twist – Just use the kitchen sideboard for anything that comes to your mind. Turn it into a work area by putting a laptop on it. Or simply convert it into a mini bar by putting a small wine rack and a few glasses. Convert it into a coffee corner by putting an espresso machine and coffee mugs. Just do whatever you like and don’t let anything restrict your creativity.
