Design Your Kitchen
Are you planning to design your kitchen but don’t have any idea how to go about it? Whether you are designing your kitchen from scratch for the first time or you are getting yourself involved in a renovation, there are many things to consider before you actually get ready to design your kitchen. This article will tell you all you need to know about how to design your kitchen.
Kitchen Traffic
By kitchen traffic, we mean the number of people that are going to walk around in the kitchen and the kind of people. Are you a young family with lots of kids running around the kitchen area? Do you have pets? Are older people going to be using the kitchen? These are questions that must be answered before you think how the kitchen design should be. Also, in many houses the kitchen serves as an entry way to the rest of the house or to the garden, which immediately implies that it is going to get dirty a lot. To avoid this building a mud room next to the kitchen is a great idea.
The kitchen triangle
You must always consider the work triangle in kitchen before you start to design your kitchen. The triangle is the area formed between the sink, the cooking range and the refrigerator. A good kitchen design makes movement within this triangle comfortable and convenient. It does not matter what the shape of your entire kitchen is. It may be L-shaped, U-shaped, or corridor styled, you can always get the kitchen triangle to work for you.
Placing the gadgets
When designing your kitchen, always make sure you give careful consideration to how and where you place your appliances. The refrigerator, cook top, dishwasher, microwave and other gadgets should be placed in such a way that they have some worktop space next to them and don’t get in the way of your work. The sink is usually placed near the window and the dishwasher is close to the sink; so you can start from there and design where the other appliances go accordingly.
Storage and organization
There are a zillion things that are needed in a functional kitchen and you cannot keep everything on the work top. You need places where you can store some items and only take them out when needed. So proper planning for storage spaces is a must or else you will forever be running around looking for things you need to cook.
Eating areas
If possible, always try to squeeze in an eating area in your kitchen. It need not be a big dining table; just a small island turned into a breakfast bar would also suffice.
